Guppy is a very popular aquarium fish. It is particularly suitable for beginner hobbyist since it is easy to keep and non-aggressive. The Guppy belongs to the Livebearer group and will give birth to free swimming fry instead of laying eggs. The Guppy are from South and Central America, but can today been found in other places of the world.
Guppy Fish are not aggressive and are good community fish with other fish of similar size.
A Guppy fish can be kept in a 2 gallon aquarium; Guppies are schooling fish and do best in groups of 6 or more. It is best to have schools with only one male to several females.
There are numerous Guppy fish variations, differencing in the shape of the body as well as the color of the fish. The most common colors are red, green and blue. Guppy variations include swordtail guppy, Long fin guppy, Fantail guppy, Red tail guppy, Triangle tail guppy, Rounded guppy, Fancy guppy, Tuxedo guppy, Glass guppy, Grass guppy, Moscow guppy, King Cobra guppy and many more.
Guppy fish like harder water, Your Guppies will do best if you keep the water temperature between (26-30° C) in the aquarium, and the pH between 6.6 and 7.5.
Guppies must be fed once or twice a day. Many pellets & flakes foods are available in aquarium shops which are more nutritious for Guppy Fish. A flake food diet is a good base for your guppy.
